I love it when companies return to what they know best and leave other areas of the IT market for those that are actually good at covering them. The same goes for Samsung, which have recently announced the SMX-C14 and SMX-C10 digital camcorders.
If you have read some of my earlier articles regarding Samsung and its camcorders, you might have noticed in the picture displayed in this article that these two resemble the
full-HD HMX-R10, which I covered a while back. You'll be happy to know that besides the cool appearance and ergonomic way of holding it, both the SMX-C14 and SMX-C10 also retain Samsung's Active Angle Lens. The interesting thing about the camera's unique design is that the LCD screen is kept outside of the user's line of sight, so they always know what they are shooting.
Of course, a 2.7-inch 230.000 dot swiveling LCD is present, as well as a 10x optical zoom ability and Hyper Image Stabilization that reduces blurry footage in case the user is wearing a T-shirt at an Alaskan outdoor party and his/her hand is shaking.
Reid Sullivan, senior vice president of Audio/Video and Digital Imaging Marketing at Samsung Electronics America, had a few words to share with us regarding the latest cameras, “The SMX-C14 and SMX-C10 are truly unique camcorders, starting with their eye-catching ToC design [...] In addition to being ultra-compact, ergonomic and stylish, these camcorders offer a host of advanced, yet easy-to-use capabilities that encourage consumers to integrate video recording into their everyday digital lifestyles.”
The SMX-C14 sports 16 GB of internal flash memory that can be expanded via an SD/SDHC card slot, meaning you'll be recording up to six hours of film before you run out of storage. However, the C10 does not feature internal memory and needs an SD/SDHC card to function. Samsung's play-and-edit program allows users to connect their camera to the PC and directly edit their videos while the animated thumbnail feature plays a short part of the video files stored within.
The cameras will be made available in July 2009. No pricing has been specified.
