Cell phones and water just don't mix, but everything is not lost if you have just dropped you new mobile phone in a pool of water, thanks to a solution introduced in Japan called the “Dryer Box.”
You've just got your new smartphone for a spin and everything is just peachy until disaster strikes: taken into by the awesomeness of the whole experience you have just dropped your new phone, and in a pool of
water off all things.
Well, the situation is certainly complicated, but don't despair yet.
If you are living in Japan there is still a chance for you as a company called JMC Risk Solutions has just installed a number of devices called “Dryer Boxes,” built especially to salvage your phone in situations like this.
Simply place your mobile in there for 30 minutes, and if the repair attempt is successful pay the $12 tax that is associated with this service.
Although the Dryer Box was designed to work with cell phones, there is no reason why this shouldn't work for other electronic
devices, such as
cameras, iPod's or even tablet PC's (provided that they would fit).
Unfortunately, according to
Gizmag, this devices were installed only in selected Yodobashi Camera shops around Tokyo so if you don't live in some place nearby the rice bag treatment is still you're phones best chance.
