Recent day notebooks and mobile workstations require a large amount of memory so Samsung just started producing the highest density SoDIMM modules available right now, that would benefit CAD/CAM engineers and other professionals who need to work with large data sets.
This new chips are already available on the market in 8GB SoDIMM modules, Dell being among the first companies to use these in their new 17 inch Dell Precision M6500 mobile workstation, which features 32GBs of Samsung 40nm-class DDR3.
Apart from this new
memory the Dell mobile workstation also comes with an Intel Core i7 Extreme Edition CPU and Nvidia Quadro FX 3800M graphics as well as a optional Samsung 256GB solid state drive or 500GB HDD storage, with optional 2nd and 3rd drives and RAID support.
Dell is also offering the Samsung 8GB SoDIMM in the 15 inch Dell Precision M4500 mobile workstation, that comes with two such modules for a total of 16GB of
DDR3 RAM.
“Dell, a leading workstation provider, quickly embraced the industry’s highest density DRAM by being the first to launch 32GB mobile workstations with the Samsung 8GB module,” said Jim Elliott, vice president, memory marketing and product planning, Samsung Semiconductor.
“These high speed modules provide faster data processing for design engineers and other professionals who want workstations that not only hum, but sing.”
Samsung is also saying that one such DDR3 module consumes 53 percent less power than two 4GB DDR3 modules, but has not stated when will the new SoDIMM memory will be available in the retail channel, only OEMs having access to these right now.
