Since simply providing their camcorders with
SSDs for storage or with
ultra-zoom capabilities just didn't seem to be enough for Samsung, the Korean company also released at this year's CES its S Series of full HD camcorders, whose main selling point is the fact that it can stream video directly to an HDTV via its built-in Wi-Fi modules.
According to Samsung, its new HMX-S15 and HMX-S16 are the world’s first to offer both built-in Wi-Fi and DLNA connectivity, allowing for the fast and easy transfer of content, including full-HD videos, across other DLNA certified devices.
However, these are not the only impressive features these camcorders have to offer. So, each S-Series device incorporates a Schneider Kreuznach Varioplan-HD lens with Samsung’s 18x Intelli-Zoom, as well as Optical Stabilization to help reduce image blur and shakiness. Plus, they come equipped with new BSI CMOS imaging sensor, designed to absorb more light than other conventional sensors and deliver an enhanced low-light performance.
The new BSI CMOS sensor also benefits from the processing power of Samsung’s proprietary new Victoria Engine video processor, designed specifically to optimize performance of HD camcorders. Samsung’s new Victoria Engine video processor offers a 3D noise reduction filter that efficiently suppresses noise while preserving details and edges and also expands the range of color expression and improves video quality with the help of other video processing modules such as contrast, white tone and color tone enhancement.
The S-Series
camcorders offer a variety of advanced features such as a flash to help capture 10 mega-pixel digital still images, storyboard printing and the ability to shoot in super-slow motion with speeds of 300 fps at a resolution of 368×208 and 600 fps at a resolution of 192×112.
Similar to all of the new camcorders from Samsung, the S-Series utilize internal Solid State Drives (SSD) for storage. The HMX-S16 offers an internal 64GB SSD while the HMX-S15 an internal 32GB SSD. Both camcorders also allow consumers to expand memory capacity using an SD/SDHC memory card. The entry-level HMX-S10 does not feature internal SSD memory and requires the use of an SD/SDHC memory card.
As usual, pricing and availability details are kind of taboo for Samsung, but at least we do know that they'll arrive in stores over the course of 2010.
