As you might remember, a few days ago, we were talking in one of our articles from the “Rumors” section about the photos of a very sleek and attractive
Blu-ray player from Samsung, which had surfaced the web only a few hours before the official announcement. As promised, we're now back with further details on this device, the BD-P3600, which combines a very slim form factor with advanced playback features.
First of all, let's talk a bit about this thing's design. According to Samsung, the BD-P3600’s traditional set-top form is just over two inches tall, and comes encased in deep black with charcoal grey highlights curving along the outer edges. The device is built according to Samsung's new Touch of Color (ToC) design concept, and, for an even smoother surface, sports touch-sensitive controls.
Now, moving on from the design, let's see what the BD-P3600 is really capable of, as far as the high-definition playback is concerned. Thus, Samsung's device will support Full HD 1080p playback of Blu-ray discs, while being able to upconvert standard DVDs through the HDMI 1.3 connection. Additionally, the device can easily decode high-resolution digital multichannel audio soundtracks, including Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD and dts-HD HR / MA, at the same time being able to output any of the soundtracks as a bitstream through its 7.1-Channel analog audio outputs, or as an uncompressed PCM signal, for consumers desiring the best cinematic sound with an older A/V receiver.

The BD-P3600 also supports the BD Live (Profile 2.0) and Bonus View (Profile 1.1) features, but, as expected, requires an Internet connection in order to make full use of them. What's really interesting here is that, besides the already “classic” Ethernet connector, the device is also accompanied by an 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi dongle, which can be easily plugged into one of the two available USB 2.0 ports, for wireless versatility.
Additionally, Samsung's Blu-ray unit sports 1 GB of built-in flash memory, which can be used for storing other content downloaded from the Internet.
Unfortunately, pricing and availability are still unknown, so we'll probably have to wait some time before coughing up a very large sum of money on this thing.
