As you've been able to undoubtedly see for yourselves, Verizon's been pretty busy over the past couple of days, announcing the future availability of a very large number of mobile phones from several different categories. And even if smartphones have dominated the company's recent announcement frenzy, Verizon also has in store some significantly different devices, such as the particular model you'll read about as follows, namely the
Samsung Convoy.
According to Verizon, the Convoy is a rugged Push to Talk device built to “withstand the harshest of elements.” Samsung's clamshell features a rugged, durable and robust design and meets military specifications 810F standards for shock and dust resistance, vibration, salt fog, humidity, solar radiation, altitude and low and high temperature storage.
The
device offers users extensive Push to Talk capabilities that leverage Verizon Wireless’ Evolution-Data Optimized (EV-DO) network, as well as a high-quality stereo speaker and a 1300 mAh for long battery life.
The Convoy also offers users a couple of “lifestyle” features, such as the VZ Navigator (SM), which allows customers to get audible turn-by-turn directions to more than 15 million points of interest and share the directions with others, a 2.0 megapixel camera with Night Shot, panorama, color effects and more, as well as a personal organizer with calendar, tip calculator, currency converter, notepad, alarm clock, world clock and stop watch.
Moreover, the handheld incorporates Bluetooth version 2.1 wireless technology, which offers support for headset (mono and stereo), hands-free, dial-up networking, serial port, object push (vCard and vCalendar only), basic image, basic printing and phonebook access.
Given the fact that the
Samsung Convoy is not exactly what one might call a high-end handheld, its price, of around 50 US dollars (after a $50 mail-in rebate with a new two-year customer agreement with Verizon Wireless) seems to be a pretty OK one, all things considered.
