Over the past couple of years, Samsung has really managed to climb to the top of the mobile phone manufacturer market, launching a myriad of products that target pretty much any single segment and/or niche, including that of youngsters, who want to be able to keep their friends updated on their whereabouts and activities at any given moment.
For this category of users, the Korean company has recently announced the
Corby family, which will include some colorful, easy to use touchscreen handhelds, able to deliver some basic communication functions, as well as integrated access to social networking services (Facebook and Twitter), which represent two major selling points for the targeted demographic. Plus, unlike other touchscreen phones, the models from the Corby family are quite affordable, partially due to the fact that they're not exactly what we'd call “fancy.”
During a recent Samsung local event related to the
Corby we've had the chance to take the little handheld for a very quick spin, in order to see what it's really capable of. And, to tell you the truth, the “colorful little bugger” might actually be quite appealing to the younger crowd, given its features.
So, first and foremost, we'll have to mention that the Corby's all about plastic, which somehow explains its lower price point. Plus, it's available in several colors, so customers will be able to choose the “flavor” that best suits their style and tastes. The device comes equipped with a 2.8-inch, 240 x 320 pixel touchscreen display, which is quite responsive and allows users to easily dial numbers, access their favorite social networking services and much more. Plus, carrying this thing around should also be quite an easy task, given the fact that it measures just 103.0 x 56.5 x 12.0 mm and weighs around 92 grams (with battery).
Since we've mentioned above the respective social networking services, it's also interesting to note that the handheld sports a built-in, 2 MP, 1600x1200 pixel camera, which can be used for taking photos or recording video clips and then easily uploading them to the web for easy sharing with friends.
Of course, the Corby supports multiple GSM options (GSM 900 / GSM 1800 / GSM 1900 / GSM 850 and UMTS 2100 – 3G) and attains some pretty decent transfer speeds. Of course, USB 2.0 and Bluetooth 2.1 are also supported.
Given all of these features, plus the fairly eye-catching price point (around 200 US dollars or Euro, unlocked), it's very likely that the Corby mobile phone from
Samsung might be quite appealing for young users, who'll certainly appreciate its many features and, why not, even the hip and cool-looking cases.
