External hard drives are pretty useful devices for the IT gadgeteer that needs to move fast between computers at different locations or for users looking to expand their storage options and size. This is perhaps why Samsung decided to expand its S Series external hard drive lineup with a few new models.
Not only has it increased its family with a new 1.8-inch S1 Mini drive with a capacity of 160 GB, but it has also added new colors to its line (1.8-inch 120GB S1 Mini and 2.5-inch 500GB S2 Portable), adding to the original Piano Black, Snow White, Wine Red, and Chocolate Brown coloring. These new colors are Sweet Pink and Ocean Blue, dubbed “Pop” colors.
C.H. Lee, vice president, storage sales & marketing, Samsung Electronics, had a few things to tell us regarding the release, “With an extraordinary capacity for its small footprint, the Samsung S1 series features low power, portability, convenience and eco-friendliness. […] The new 160GB edition also provides convenient backup with ease of handling, featuring an ultra-compact credit-card size casing.”
Other common features such as SecretZone (encrypts and protects files and data), SafetyKey (ensures the hard drive is locked with via a password entry method or the sleep mode, auto backup or capacity gauge add to the usefulness of the S Series Samsung external hard drives. It seems that these new colors try to make the external drives more appealing to the younger generation of buyers, trying to provide the better solution between what they call stylish and what regular users call functional.
I'm not going to say anything about calling a pink external hard drive “stylish” but then again, if there are so many pink and pinkish products being sold and produced out there... there are obviously a lot of persons buying them!
We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there.
