Ever since CES 2010, we were pretty sure that 2010 was going to remembered not only as the “year of 3D,” but also as the “year of the tablet,” that particular point in the history of technology when
Internet and multimedia tablets would really go mainstream, not only from the point of view of the number of consumers who'd go for such a product, but also from the point of view of the sheer number of models that would arrive on the market.
And sure enough, that's exactly what happened, especially over the past couple of days, when, at Computex, in Taipei, pretty much everyone and their mother came up with their own tablet model, powered by either NVIDIA's Tegra 2
platform, Qualcomm's Snapdragon CPU, Intel's Atom processor, etc. and running just about any mobile OS one might think of (short of WebOS and iPad OS, they were pretty much all there).
But it's not going to end here. No, in fact, we're pretty sure that, before December 31, 2010, we'll be seeing a whole lot more tablets make their way onto shelves, coming from even more manufacturers, including some of the biggest names on the CE market. And in fact, that's exactly the case with Samsung, which apparently has just more or less voluntarily leaked some info on its upcoming tablet, called the Galaxy Tab.
So, as numerous
online reports point out, the Galaxy Tab is a 7-inch device, whose photo was posted on a Twitter account pertaining to Samsung Blog South Africa. Unfortunately, since then, the photo was removed, but we've still been able to find via some other sources. Anyway, other available information regarding the tablet formerly known as “S-Tab” seems to point out it will feature an AMOLED display and will run
Android, with Samsung's TouchWiz UI on top.
Naturally, there's still very little info on the pricing and/or availability of the Galaxy Tab Android tablet from Samsung, but we'll try to keep you posted as soon as more relevant information appears.
We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there.
