While the future of portable DVD and Blu-ray players is not exactly a bright one (especially since there are many portable computing systems out there that can deliver a similar level of versatility and functionality), it looks like Samsung's ready to give this segment a try, rolling out what they tout to be the world's first-ever portable 3D Blu-ray player, model BD-C8000.
Unfortunately, despite of the rather pompous title, the BD-C8000 won't be able to enable a 3D experience wherever the user might be, simply because this thing requires a compatible 3D-ready
HDTV set in order to “unleash the magic”.
Of course, the player also sports its own, built-in 10.3-inch display, but the respective screen is not 3D-enabled.
The BD-C8000 also delivers true 1080p HD video and packs a built-in Wi-Fi module for easy access to advanced connectivity features, including an expanding library of content and applications via Samsung Apps and HDMI 1.4a support.
Last, but certainly not least, we'll have to point out that the portable player from Samsung comes equipped with a rechargeable battery, which delivers three hours of battery life.
The
Samsung BD-C8000 portable 3D Blu-ray player should already be available in stores as we speak, with the pricing being set at a cool $499.99.
