Without a doubt, Amazon's Kindle will be remembered as the first major portable eBook reader to arrive on the market, but it remains to be seen whether it will also be known as the best model. And that's because quite a lot of other companies have started developing their own versions of such a product, one of the biggest being Korean behemoth Samsung, which has just made available its SNE-50K model.
As the Korean company informs us, its new portable
eBook reader will feature a 5-inch display, capable of providing a 600 x 800 pixel resolution. Furthermore, the device is extremely thin (just 9 mm thickness) and lightweight (around 200 grams), and is equipped with a very serious battery, able to sustain up to 4,320 continuous page views.
However, what really makes this device different from most other eBook readers out there is the fact that its e-paper display can also be used as a
notepad. Hence, users will be able to easily take notes with a special pen right on the SNE-50K, which can be later saved within the reader's 512MB memory.
Furthermore, the device is apparently quite versatile as far as the supported file types are concerned, given the fact that it will probably work with any format out there, including here the widely known ePub, TXT, PDF, Power Point, Excel, Word and BMP files.
Now that we've seen what this very interesting portable eBook reader can do, it's about time to learn something about the pricing and availability. Hence, according to Samsung, its SNE-50K should arrive in stores in Korea (Japan as well, it seems) towards the end of the week and will sell for the equivalent of an estimate 275 US dollars, which makes it more affordable than
Amazon's Kindle and even Sony's own portable reader.
