Since Samsung is one of the world's best-known consumer electronics manufacturers, it was to be expected for the company to provide a pretty extensive list of portable multimedia players, and sure enough, it did, over the years. And one of the most interesting such products is the P3 model, which has become even more attractive for its lucky owners (lucky, because this thing is available for the time being only on a few markets around the world) due to a firmware update scheduled to arrive in the near future.
Hence, as
AnythingButiPod informs us, quoting a post by
Le Journal du Geek, after applying the firmware update, users will be able to enjoy video playback at 800x600 pixel resolution, thus solving one of the most pressing problems this otherwise attractive player had: lack of video support.
Furthermore, besides getting access to video, the firmware update will also bring about some other goodies, such as support for the SMI format and a mosaic video browser similar to the S9, plus an added DNSe setting for movies. The “mozaic search” is actually a very interesting system, as it allows users to find a certain scene in a particular video by dividing the respective clip into 16 different parts.
Additionally, users will be able to enjoy a new drawing notepad similar to Paint, a Dictionary (which, given the restrictive availability of the P3, will only support the Korean and Chinese languages at the moment), and a fresh mirror album art now playing screen. Apparently, the update will also improve the PMP's level of performance, the P3 moving 30% faster with its brand new firmware.
As mentioned above, it seems that this hardware update is scheduled to arrive in the near future, probably at some point in early March. So, in other words, keep your eyes on Samsung's firmware update page and your P3 at hand.
