Although notebooks are portable by essence, there are quite a lot of users out there who have decided to ditch their old desktops completely, in favor of such a solution. However, in many cases, they've decided to keep that old LCD around, simply because they often require more desktop space than the notebook's display is able to provide.

But since using a normal LCD PC monitor as a secondary notebook monitor might have some issues in certain circumstances (like too much of a difference between the two devices' position, which leads to an added level of strain on the eyes), Korean company Samsung has decided to launch the 19- (LD190G) and 22-inch (LD220G) UbiSync Lapfit monitors, a couple of LCD displays designed specifically to accompany portable computing systems.

As mentioned above, the main selling point these USB monitors (yeah, forgot to mention that, these things connect to notebooks via a USB 2.0 interface) have to offer is represented by the fact that they can be easily adjusted in order to match the position of the notebook display. Hence, their position can be modified at 10-30 degree angles, which should pretty much suffice for most notebook users out there.

Highly adjustable, but will anyone buy them?

Besides the enhanced level of adjustment versatility, the new Lapfit monitors are not exactly some technological wonder, since we're talking about a 1,360 x 768 pixel resolution, 16:9 image aspect, a fairly OK response time (4ms), plus a 20,000:1 dynamic contrast.

The 22-inch UbiSync Lapfit model (LD220G) is slated to arrive in stores at some point in March and will retail for the equivalent of around 216 US dollars, while its smaller sibling, the 19-inch LD190G, will sell for somewhere around 165 US dollars. These are not exactly very high prices, but, then again, it remains to be seen whether there really is a market for such products or not.
