It would seem that Samsung is quite on a roll today. So, after reading about its new line of
SyncMaster PC monitors and its ultra-compact,
YouTube-oriented camcorder, the Korean company has also launched a new camcorder family, called the K-Series, which includes two HD-capable models, the SMX-K40 and SMX-K45.
Both of the new models from Samsung can record videos at 720x480 pixels resolution, and then, via the built-in HDMI output, can play the respective videos at near Full-HD quality on the HDTVs they're connected to, partially thanks to the built-in upscaling technology.
Furthermore, the two new camcorders from Samsung come packed with a 65x Intelli-Zoom lens (Schneider-KREUZNACH optics), which allows users to go beyond the camcorder’s 52x optical zoom. The K-Series also features Samsung’s advanced Optical Image Stabilizer, ensuring that video will be shake-free, whether zoomed out or using the camcorder at its full zoom level.
The main difference between the two new K-Series camcorders is related to the issue of storage. Hence, the SMX-K45 offers an internal 32GB Solid State Drive (SSD), providing up to 20 hours and 40 minutes of recording time depending on the recording mode. On the other hand, the SMX-K40 does not have internal storage and requires the use the of an SD/SDHC card.
Similar to the HMX-U10, the K-Series
camcorders also feature Samsung’s play-edit-sharing program called intelli-studio, which allows consumers to turn any computer into a mobile studio, giving them the ability to edit and play their video without having to install supporting software. Plus, Samsung’s animated thumbnail feature simplifies the way users search for video clips, since each video clip saved on the camcorder is represented by a small thumbnail on the LCD screen. When scrolling through one’s videos, each thumbnail will provide a short playback of the video file when highlighted by the user.
Both of the new K-Series cameras are scheduled to arrive in stores over the course of August and will sell for 330 US dollars (the K40) and $500, respectively (the K45).
