I have always liked navigation systems because... well, they make navigation pretty easy especially when you're in an unfamiliar town or area. Just pop up your GPS and... problem solved. Some GPS devices, however, have started to cause more problems than they solve. Why do I say that? Continue reading and you will see.
It seems that Sanyo has just introduced two new in-dash navigation systems from the famed “Gorilla” series. What's so great about these systems is that they offer a lot of interesting functions, as well as using a 16GB solid state drive (flash memory) in order to store its files. However, you'll get only half the size (that's 8 GB for all you less mathematically prone readers out there), since the other half is filled with 3D maps and the applications needed to make the GPS stand out in a market saturated by such devices.
As for the other 8GB, here's what I have a problem with. The device comes with an integrated DVD player, CD ripping functionality and a digital TV tuner to boot. This means you'll be filling your remaining 8GB of SSD storage with music and videos for the time you are resting on the side of the road or waiting for 30 minutes for the car in front of you to move. What the maker hasn't taken into account, however, is the “human” factor.
The “human” factor refers to (in this case) those particular humans that do not wait to come to a full stop in order to watch their favorite TV Show and they do so while engaged in traffic, perhaps hitting a few pedestrians or parked cars on the way to their Final Destination (I hope you have seen the movie). Luckily, since these devices are bound to arrive in June, for a price of about 1.423 USD, there won't be a lot of people who can afford them.
We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed. Interesting links are bound to be posted with recognition going mainly to those who submit. The address is
