AT&T wants to make the world a better place, regarding energy consumption, with the AT&T Zero Charger for smartphones that will be available soon. How soon, in May, but to know the exact launch date, you can subscribe on their website so that you can receive a newsletter. What they are doing with this product right here is try and let people realize that whenever they leave an electrical device plugged in the wall socket, there are huge quantities of energy sucked by it in standby mode.
This is not news for anyone, I presume, which is why I am going to tell you that the figures AT&T has brought to this equation, before their Zero Charger launch, are very scary indeed, with 120 billion Kwh lost every year this way. This translates into
energy costs of $12 billion, according to the U.S. Department of Energy. Add this to the “vampire draw” expression and you have a horrifying scenario created in which the HERO is the ZERO.
The Zero Charger is going to stop drawing energy from the wall sockets as soon as you unplug your smartphone, which makes it ideal for
energy and planet saving. The AT&T Zero Charger will also work with a wide array of smartphones, including the iPhone. All is well when it ends well, but I have some extra pieces of information to give you, which should make you wonder about the eco-friendliness of this charger, or about AT&T “
Save your Planet” slogan.
I stumbled upon a rather interesting article, in which there is talk about the energy consumption of the common set-top-box and the data read there doesn't quite fit the ecological profile AT&T is trying to picture with the ZERO Charger. Feel free to read it
here.
