Not that much time has passed since Seagate went into the network attached storage business, but this is one company that seems to want a make a name for itself in the NAS market, Seagate just releasing two new BlackArmour solutions that are built for small businesses with evolving storage needs.
Called the BlackArmor NAS 440 and BlackArmor NAS 220, these new devices will ship pre-populated with
3TB drives in each bay, the NAS 440 coming with an whopping 12TB of storage space.
The smaller BlackArmor NAS 220 will have to settle for “just” 6TB since it packs only two drive bays, this model also being limited to RAID 1 (mirroring) support, its older brother coming in a RAID 5 configuration.
Designed to cater to businesses with up to 50 employees, Seagate's
NAS solutions will feature Microsoft Active Directory support, hardware-based encryption, remote access via a web-based service, a FTP server as well as additional USB ports to install extra USB storage devices or easily share a USB printer.
A wide series of software management solutions will also be bundled together with these devices, users having access to a full system recovery and back-up utility,
Seagate offering 10 backup software licenses out-of-the-box, additional licenses being also available in 2 and 5 set increments.
As I stated earlier initially both solutions will come pre-populated with 3TB drives in each bay, the 12TB BlackArmor NAS 440 coming in at $1,899.99 while the BlackArmor NAS 220 6TB will be available for $649.99, OK prices if you consider the extensive feature set and large storage capacities.
