Designed with home security in mind, the new Total Connect solution is quite practical and comes with a few features that anybody, including those of you that have multiple properties, will find useful. Total Connect is first of all a platform that delivers information directly to portable, internet-enabled devices, so that users can check up on their houses while on business trips, vacations, at work, etc.

“Adding these new smart video capabilities to Total Connect provides that additional peace of mind for the home or business owner who is constantly on the go,” said Gordon Hope, general manager of Honeywell’s AlarmNet communications network. “And it’s not only about security. Consumers can check in on their kids, babysitters, employees or elderly relatives who might need special care.”

Though this Honeywell technology is compatible with a plethora of mobile devices, it is, of course, boasted for its compatibility with the iPhone, iPad and RIM's BlackBerry. The gimmick is compatible with notebooks and computers, actually, a complete system allowing you to monitor your home while being away.

If you have multiple properties, the Total Connect interface is accessible through a single user login and it displays all your properties in one window at the same time. This feature is also available if you have only one property under surveillance, but have installed multiple Honeywell IP cameras in different areas or rooms.

This security platform will inform you via mail about any possible hazards, not just break-ins, such as water flooding in the basement, a power failure, extreme temperature changes, etc. It is also useful for non-emergency situations, such as your child returning from school.

Being compatible with portable devices, you can always make videos, snap photos, in case you capture any “interesting” event around your house while you are not there. The following video has more details on it.
