You know, not everybody has Apple products, not even iPods (because, in common sense, they're too expensive). That's the downside for the ones that do. They have two options, either carry a uni-purpose cable with them all the time in case they run out of battery or just stop listening to music (what?!). I know the
proprietary dock connector is very useful as well, but versatility stops right on the line of compatibility. The third option would be the recently released PocketDock from SendStation that adds MiniUSB compliance to your iPod.
MiniUSB has become quite a connectivity standard nowadays, featured in almost all portable electronic devices. That is also the latest addition to the PocketDock branch of iPod & iPhone adapters made by SendStation.
Incredibly tiny, it is about the same size of the Apple iPod plug and also sports a 3.5mm jack right next to the MiniUSB connector. The MiniUSB will allow you to both charge and synchronize your iPod, while the 3.5mm jack provides a bypass for the volume board used by the headphone jack.
Given than, you can easily and better connect your iPod to external speakers and even get two of the most common
audio cables included in the package - 3.5mm mini to mini and 3.5mm mini to dual RCA (for mixers and high-end audio amplifiers). Weighing just a tad more than nothing, a mere 4 grams, and measuring 7 x 25.5mm, it's sure to fit through any dock connector opening of various cases.
With a price tag of $30, it is a little expensive given what it is, but if you don't like running out of battery or carrying a cable with you, then you'll get over the price, which isn't a fortune either.
