We have all come across a USB network adapter at least once, so that's nothing new, just like USB adapters are used to connect to wireless and 3G networks. What is new is Silex Technology America that just announced a claimed world's first, namely the first gigabit USB device server, the SX-3000GB USB-to-Gigabit adapter.

What is different with this is that the SX-3000GB allows users to share up to 15 USB devices over a TCP/IP networking using a Gigabit Ethernet interface. Of course, the adapter itself doesn't have that many USB ports, but it supports USB hub linking to reach the maximum load.

This looks like one more thing to be added on the purchase list, since you can use it for sharing probably your whole line-up of USB-enabled devices, like flash memory sticks, printers, scanners and other gadgets alike. Compatible with both Windows and Mac, the SX-3000GB can also be integrated into a Virtual Desktop environment if needed, so I can already relate to the fact that I will see this used as a DIY NAS, using multiple USB sticks, or external hard drives.

As for the adapter itself, it packs a single 10/100/1000Base Ethernet port that can be connected to a wired or wireless router. Two USB 2.0 ports are embedded with a combined power output of one amp. With such a small price, of only $99, this is definitely a very suitable solution for small or home offices and small businesses, to share content over the network and use devices, since the adapter makes all connected stuff to act as if they were connected to the user's computer.

Bundled with the adapter, users will also receive SX Virtual Link utility that allows for easy discovery, connection and disconnection from USB devices on the network, as well as browser interface for configuration and management.

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed. Interesting links are bound to be posted with recognition going mainly to those who submit. The address is
