The carpal tunnel syndrome and RSI (repetitive strain injury) are two of the worst things that can happen to any person that uses a computer for long periods of time, since they can seriously and adversely affect one's health and working capacity. For this reason, all sorts of ergonomic peripherals that prevent the two problems mentioned above from occurring have arrived on the market lately, one of the most interesting being the Pro-Motion keyboard from Smartfish, a device that can actually adapt to its user’s typing habits.
Hence, according to Smartfish, the Pro-Motion keyboard slowly adapts and adjusts to one's typing style. That's possible due to the fact that Smartfish’s proprietary Dynamic Positioning Controller actually studies the usage patterns and makes periodic, yet imperceptible adjustments to the height, angle and radial position of the device. Of course, since this is a highly innovative technology, the company doesn't provide any details regarding exactly how the adjustments are made, but, by all accounts, we might be talking about some actuators and tiny electrical engines (just a guess, though, so it might actually be something completely different altogether).
Leaving aside the ergonomic aspect for a second, it's important to mention the fact that the Pro-Motion is a full QWERTY keyboard, which features a number pad and an integrated wrist wrest. Additionally, it also sports an aluminum finish and Sensor Lights.
The Pro-Motion is a USB keyboard, fully compatible with both Windows-based systems and Macs. It sells for around 130 US dollars (not that bad a price, especially if you already have RSI and carpal tunnel syndrome – related problems) and is accompanied by a plastic keyboard dust cover, CD with software, comfort guidelines, and help center, a Quick Start guide and a five-year limited hardware warranty, plus the company's “full support” if you need help setting it up.
