It really seems that the demand for ultra-rugged, ultra-tough mobile communications devices is on the rise, since Sonim, a very well-known manufacturer of such products, has just brought forward the XP1300 CORE model, that's touted as being the world's first IP-68 rated GSM handset that's fully submersible in 2 meters of water.
The rugged phone comes equipped with a 2-inch high-resolution, scratch-resistant screen (Gorilla Glass), as well as a noise-canceling microphone, providing workers with a tough mobile phone that endures the harshest conditions.
That's possible due to the fact that it has been manufactured from some pretty tough materials, featuring a dual injected shell (hardened rubber, fiberglass mix) that protects it against rain, fog and salt air, while in the same time being able to withstand 2 meter drops onto concrete.
Plus, the device packs an accessible keypad with widely-spaced keys for ease of use with gloved hands, as well as a 23mm speaker, protected by a GORE cover, which really comes in handy when playing videos or music.
Additionally, the XP1300 CORE provides plenty of battery life, since it boasts 18 hours of talk time and 800 hours of standby time in temperatures ranging from -20 degrees C to +55 degrees C.
"The XP1300 CORE, our first product built on our 4th generation rugged platform, raises the toughness stakes once again. It'll be the #1 choice for construction crews, farmers, dock workers and others in tough work environments," said Bob Plaschke, CEO of Sonim Technologies.
The XP1300 CORE will be available worldwide at the beginning of November, with the US pricing being set at MRSP $399 (unlocked), which makes this super-tough device an extremely interesting choice, all things considered.
