What's the point of developing and manufacturing an Internet-enabled HDTV if you don't partner with content delivery services in order to offer your customers a complete online cinematographic experience?

Well, this is exactly the question that probably went through the minds of a lot of Sony's execs, the answer being represented by the company's latest announcement, related to the fact that, from now on, Netflix subscribers will be able to instantly watch movies streamed from Netflix on Sony's BRAVIA Internet Video-capable HDTVs and on previous BRAVIA models compatible with Sony's BRAVIA Internet video link module.

Hence, according to this announcement, starting with the fall of 2009, Netflix members on an unlimited plan can use the Sony BRAVIA Internet Video-capable HDTVs to instantly watch more than 12,000 movies and TV episodes streamed from Netflix.

Netflix members pay as little as $8.99 a month for unlimited streaming of Netflix's huge library. The movies and TV episodes from the respective library can be watched instantly on Sony's BRAVIA Internet Video-capable HDTVs through a Queue-based user interface. Netflix members can add movies and TV episodes to their instant Queues on the Netflix Web site. Those choices will then be automatically displayed when a user selects Netflix on the BRAVIA Internet Video platform.

"Sony has been a world leader in consumer electronics for decades," said Netflix Chief Executive Officer Reed Hastings. "We are proud to include Sony Electronics among our CE partners who continue to provide new and exciting ways for Netflix members to instantly watch movies and TV episodes in their living rooms on their TVs," while Jeff Goldstein, vice president of Sony Electronics' television business, declared that "Adding Netflix gives many of our customers access to a vast library of streaming content through their existing Netflix accounts."

Now, if they only provided such an integration for other countries than the US.
