Beside the new line-up of Internet TV with Google TV HDTVs it unveiled today, Sony also released the Internet TV Blu-ray Disc Player NSZ-GT1, designed specifically for those users who want to enjoy the benefits provided by the Google TV experience, while in the same time not being forced to purchase a brand-new HDTV in order to do so.
As far as its functionality is concerned, the NSZ-GT1 is fairly similar to the Internet TVs themselves, providing direct access to the Google TV platform and letting users search for content across the TV programs and the Internet.
Also similar to Sony's HDTVs, the device will support Android Market downloads from early 2011, control via one's Android smartphone (later on this fall), while in the same time allowing users to enjoy their favorite Blu-ray titles (as an “extra”).
Plus, it also works with the RF QWERTY keypad
remote with integrated optical mouse, packs a built-in Wi-Fi module, as well as one HDMI input, one HDMI output and four USB inputs.
"Sony Internet TV is the world's first HDTV that combines the big-screen impact of television and full Internet search to deliver an unrivaled entertainment experience," said Mike Abary, senior vice president of Sony's Home Division.
"Finally, you can seamlessly search your favorite TV programs and web sites on the same screen, at the same time," Sony's rep continued.
The Sony Internet TV Blu-ray Disc Player NSZ-GT1 will become available in October for about $399.99, which is a bit more that
Logitech's Revue Google TV STB, but given the fact that the device from Sony also delivers Blu-ray playback support, we' dare to say that this might actually be a pretty sweet deal.
