While Blu-ray players are yet to become the dominant standalone home entertainment accessories (DVD players are still occupying the top spot due to their lower price points), the truth of the matter is that the only way in which the manufacturers of such products can keep the customers' attention locked onto their products is to constantly roll out new, improved and (possibly) cheaper models. And that's exactly what Sony's doing right now, with its fresh BDP-S360 BD player.
Besides 1080p (Full HD) support and 24p true cinema for cinematic picture quality, the player from Sony incorporates a range of other interesting features and technologies, such as BD-Live, which allows users to download and stream bonus content such as additional scenes, trailers and movie-based games, which can later on be saved onto a USB flash drive, given the fact that the BDP-S360 also sports a built-in USB port.
Furthermore, since it's been equipped with Sony’s Precision Cinema HD Upscale technology, the BDP-S360 can convert standard definition signals to 1080p, providing a near high definition picture via HDMI. The device also has a very quick start-up mode (just around 6 seconds) and incorporates Sony’s Precision Drive technology, which helps detect and correct wobbling discs from three directions, supporting stabilization of the playback of bent or scratched Blu-ray Discs and DVDs.
Additionally, its BRAVIA sync technology allows users to control the player, BRAVIA TV and home theatre system with just one remote control, meaning that they can switch on all three products with the touch of a single button. Also included is the added functionality of Bonus View, providing Picture-in-Picture capability with certain titles.
As mentioned before, the Japanese company has also introduced three new BRAVIA Theatre systems, the HT-FS3, HT-SS360 and HT-SF360, the last two providing a very impressive 1000W power output with support for High Definition sound. They support Sony's S-AIR technology (for wireless connectivity), plus the very useful DCAC (Digital Cinema Auto Calibration) technology, which takes care of the setup process in a fast and easy manner.
For the time being, Sony's not provided any pricing details regarding its latest products, but they'll most likely be unveiled in various European markets by the end of Q2.
