Since Japan is, after all, its home turf, Sony has the habit of rolling out all sorts of products
dedicated specifically to this particular market, some of which don't really manage to make it to the western markets. And that might also be the case with their latest releases from the BRAVIA BX series of LCD TV’s, which will offer users a built-in 500GB for recording TV programs, besides the usual good image quality.
As
SonyInsider informs us, the BX series targets mostly customers on a budget, and, for this reason, it doesn't go all the way up to Full HD, instead providing only 720p (a.k.a. HD-ready) resolution. However, it also boasts a 100,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, as well as a CCFL backligthing system.
The new
Bravia BX series LCD TVs are available in 22, 26 and 32-inch flavors and, as mentioned above, also boast a 500GB HDD, whose purpose is, quite obviously, that of allowing users to record TV programs without the need for an external device (a common practice among Japanese HDTV manufacturers). Plus, they're also available in white, which is a rare occurrence in the case of Sony's TVs.
Despite being budget-oriented, the BX series Bravias offer such advanced features as 60hz, 24p True Cinema, BRAVIA Engine 2, BRAVIA Sync, etc. In terms of audio, the BX series are also pretty OK, since we're talking about 5.1ch audio output and SteadySound to keep audio levels normalized. The range of connectivity options is also relatively standard: HDMI, PC input, optical audio output, etc.
While the BX series is not restricted to Japan, the new models will be available, for the time being, just on the local market. However, we hope
Sony will decide to go international with these models, because we're pretty sure that many customers around the world would be interested in what these things have to offer.
