Remember
we promised to update you on the PS3 Slim as soon as we got more facts together? Well, guess what time it is now! Yes, ladies and gents, it is time to find out everything you wanted to know about the new 300 USD slim PlayStation console that made its first appearance yesterday at GC2009. It has been a long wait, I know, it has! Full of
rumors, makeshift stories and promises that we thought Sony would never keep. And, to an extent, it did not. Find out about my disappointment.
OK, onward with the facts. Featuring the same charcoal black coloring, a 120GB Hard Disk Drive and a price of 299 USD (or 299 Euros because us Europeans are oh so rich that we have to pay about 422 USD for it). I don't know whether there is a law regarding this kind of discrimination from a company such as Sony but there should be. Anyway, since the PS3 Slim is here, cutbacks on the 80GB version PS3 (I'll call it “normal”) have come as expected.
Yes, ladies and gents, the 80GB version is... 299 USD and 299 Euros, respectively. That is... it is the same as the 120GB Hard Disk Drive PS3 Slim. Why on Earth would you pay 299 USD for a fatter, less powerful device that will soon be replaced with a slimmer and better one for the same price? But that is not all, my friends. The 160GB HDD version will have its price reduced (in North America, of course, because again Europeans can afford to pay the full price) to 399 USD but again I'd rather go for the less expensive, slimmer and better version.
Users will now be able to install other operating systems on their PS3 consoles, a “Vertical Stand” that will allow it to easily be placed vertically anywhere around the house (though the normal PS3 does that already without needing a stand) will be available for 24 USD and the new PS3 will have the ability to sync with BRAVIA TVs as well.
We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed.
