We have seen a lot of Sony-related stories lately, most of them rumors and hearsay. There have been a lot of rumors about the PS3 getting cheaper, slimmer, better and so on, some far fetched some less. With so many rumors, it is refreshing to write about something that has actually been confirmed, for a change. Such as the fact that the new PSP Go will have a 480MHz processor instead of what we thought would be a 333MHz frequency.
According to
Sony Insider, FCC documents state the device is able to go as far as 480MHz without breaking a sweat. It will probably be locked for 333MHz in true Sony fashion but hopes are that the software will allow scaling, should more intense applications request it. As some of you probably already know, the original PSP was locked to 222 MHz but the 3.50 firmware update allowed it to access its full 333 MHz potential.
And as most PSP owners will clearly state, the 111 MHz leap was very noticeable with games now sporting improved lighting, particles and so on. Even the interface was faster. I'm pretty sure you're asking yourself what a 480 MHz PSP Go will have new and how advanced PSP Go games will be should they be able to use the full power of the processor. I for one hope there will be a lot of interesting games and applications coming for the PSP Go, though, honestly, I have been pretty disappointed by Sony lately.
Then again, with all the rumors that have surfaced these months, I cannot but hope that Sony will prove to have decided to listen to its faithful users and do the right thing. You know, the much hoped price lowering for the PS3, the release of the PS3 Wand and even more than that, not overpricing the PSP Go. The maker has a lot to make up for, that's true, but if anyone can do it, then, it’s Sony!
