While Sony's PSP Go portable gaming console proved to be a lot less successful than the Japanese company would have probably wanted it to, it seems that Sony has some pretty big plans for the console's successor, the PSP2, which, according to certain sources, has already been shipped to games' developers.
According to
IndustryGamers, it would seem that at least one important developer (Netherrealm Studios, who's currently working on a Mortal Kombat reboot) has received a PSP2 for test-purposes, and their first impression was quite a positive one.
So, Executive Producer Shaun Himmerick from Netherrealm revealed the fact that the future games console can easily do 60fps, looking like it's a “pretty powerful machine”, good enough to convince developers to fully leverage its processing power for the various in-game assets.
Unfortunately, that's the only bit of information available for the time being, so there's no way of telling just how the PSP2 looks like, whether it supports 3D gaming or not, and even what's the hardware configuration.
So, in other words, it would seem that we'll have to wait quite a long time before we find out more on this topic, since Sony's been extremely quiet (and secretive) on this topic up until now, and rumors seem to point out that we may have some hopes for this next-gen console to make its way onto the market at some point in 2011 (if we're lucky enough).
