Given its active involvement in the field of digital photography, we were certainly expecting Sony to bring some interesting novelties at Photokina, and sure enough, that's exactly what the company did, although we're not really talking about new products, but rather some interesting concepts of things to come.
Probably the most interesting concept product was a new advanced segment camera (prototype) that uses Translucent Mirror Technology, which, according to the Japanese company, was showcased for the first time in Europe.
Aimed at photo enthusiasts and step-up amateurs, the new alpha model is largely built on the platform of the first
translucent mirror cameras from Sony, the α55 and α33, also on display, but also offers a couple of interesting novelties.
So, unlike traditional DSLRs, the new alpha camera from Sony (that features an Exmor APS HD CMOS Sensor) enables super-fast shooting responses with continuous AF during stills and HD video shooting (AVCHD format) in a compact body.
Also presented, new
A-mount system accessories currently in development include a flash and Vertical Grip, plus standard zoom and telephoto lenses.
Of course, the NEX series was also present at Photokina, Sony showcasing some color variation concept models of the NEX-3 and NEX-5, as well as prototypes of seven new E-mount lenses that will be available during 2011 and 2012.
All in all, we can say that Sony really came prepared for this show, even if most of the products on display were not exactly novelties, simply because the company's kept itself quite busy over the past few months, rolling out new products.
