Sony has managed to move pretty quickly in bringing the Vaio P netbook (or P Series Lifestyle PC) to the market. As you might remember, the first rumors regarding such a product emerged just before Christmas, and now, less then a month later, we've got a real product, all tried, tested and ready to arrive in the hands of so many eager early adopters. So, Sony's fans will be able to rejoice, since the VAIO P has just gone up for pre-order on the SonyStyle webstore, in all its ultra-expensive glory.
Hence, users are now provided with no less than seven different Vaio P models, divided into three major configurations and priced accordingly. However, most of the netbooks (sorry, lifestyle PCs) share the same basic configurations, the only major differences being related to the colors and the storage capacity/technology.
In order to quickly refresh your memory, we'll just mention that the Vaio P runs on a 1.6GHz Atom CPU, accompanied by 2 GB of RAM and a Mobile Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 500, which provides a total graphics memory of 760MB and allows the portable computing system to attain a maximum resolution of 1600x1200 pixels on the 8-inch XBRITE-ECO LCD display with LED back-lighting technology.
Furthermore, the Vaio P offers a very wide range of connectivity options, either wireless (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi - 802.11 b/g/n) or wired (USB, multi-memory card reader, headphone jack).
Now, let's see what the differences between the three models currently provided by Sony are. So, first of all, there are four different models that use a 60 GB HDD as a storage solution. They're priced at $899 and come in black, white, red and green color versions.
Next in line come two Vaio P versions that feature 64GB SSDs, are available in black and red and each sells for around 1,300 US dollars. The last of the P models currently offered by Sony is a black, $1,500 unit that packs a 128GB SSD in its tiny body.
As you can see, the price points of all the Vaio P models are pretty high, and even if they're already available for pre-order, it remains to be seen just how many people will rush to purchase them, given the fact that there are quite a lot of cheaper alternatives available on the market.
