I don't know many people that didn't wish to become Spiderman when they were little, including myself, I have to admit, but never would have I thought that somebody would actually use one of the most common household devices to make themselves a pair of suction gloves to climb buildings almost like our superhero.
This, my friends, is the story of 39-year-old scientist, aeronautic graduate that had many people amazed when climbing the side wall of a school, named Jem Stansfield. The fellow took advantage of the suction power that two vacuum cleaners (I did say most common household device) could provide him. This project came out of a challenge that he took, and I will let him explain.
"I came across the idea for the vacuum cleaners when I was doing a challenge to make superhuman powers out of junk. I worked out the vacuum cleaners could support my weight," he said.
Stansfield already climbed 36 meters up on the BBC Television Centre and has stated for the local press that he hopes other scientists will be more inspired and inclined to think outside the box. Could have been better said, because this is what matters and will stand out in front of all mass production and thanks to this kind of people, technology advances even more than what researchers can find out in R&D labs. Who would have ever though that vacuum cleaner motors can sustain the weight of a human being? Call me narrow minded, but I for one, surely wouldn't have believed that if not seeing the video below.
What's next for our brave scientist? Hear this - Jem Stansfield is planning to drive a car that is powered only by coffee beans, all the way from London to Manchester. I am really expecting more info on this stunt, and I will make sure to inform you guys too.
