Sierra Wireless and Sprint are promoting a new device that will be able to connect through any of the 28 4G networks available right now throughout America. Though they do not give much detail about their product, Sierra Wireless is backed up by officials at Sprint that boast the Overdrive 3G/4G mobile hotspot as an "ahead of its time" item. We all know that 4G speeds are far greater than 3G ones, but I feel a bit of exaggeration coming up.
“When coupled with Sprint’s 4G technology, any Wi-Fi-enabled device will be faster than 3G,” said Matt Carter, president of Sprint 4G. “It will be six months to a year or longer before any other national
wireless carrier can connect a Wi-Fi-enabled tablet like the iPad with up to four more wireless devices simultaneously at 4G speeds like the Overdrive can do today.”
The advantage of a mobile hotspot is that it will let you connect online from anywhere, creating a cloud networking experience. Those that rely on a mobile device like a netbook, laptop, iPod, etc. to browse the internet while on the go will surely appreciate this kind of technology. Now, this new mobile hotspot from Sierra Wireless has the advantage of 4G connectivity, besides the more popular 3G one.
Because 4G speeds are ten times faster than 3G, this
technology will be very popular in the near future, but it is now quite limited throughout the world, which means that such a solution, like the Overdrive mobile hotspot, is one for the future-oriented user. If you know you will not have access to one of the 4G networks that Sprint has built so far, you will only be limited to the 3G connectivity, which you can get from any
other mobile hotspot out there.
