Well, not everybody is a fan of the teams playing in Los Angeles' Staples Center, but you can't deny that their Live 4HD center-hung 720p High Definition scoreboard designed by Panasonic means some serious business.
Set to be unveiled September 23rd, when the Los Angeles Kings take to the ice to play against their NHL rivals, the Phoenix Coyotes, the Live 4HD scoreboard is built out of four Panasonic 22' x 14'-3"
LED displays, which are composed of fine pitch 6 mm video elements using black SMD 3 in 1 package to offer a 8000:1 contrast ratio.
Other specifications are equally impressive, the scorboard coming in with horizontal and vertical viewing angles of 140 degrees/140 degrees and a brightness level for all boards reaching 2000 nits.
However, the most unique feature the Live 4HD employs is the 4 additional 6 mm LED sisplays on the underside of the board that allow fans with court side seats to view replays and other content on the 8' x 14' panels installed.
"We are incredibly excited to unveil the world's first-ever LIVE 4HD Scoreboard," said Lee Zeidman, Sr. Vice President & General Manager, Staples Center.
"It is amazing how far technology has come since we opened STAPLES Center in 1999 and the scoreboard that our partners at
Panasonic have designed has created the best arena installation anywhere, which undoubtedly will enhance every fan's experience when they come watch a sporting event at STAPLES Center."
But adding the new
scoreboard was not all that was required since this also needed a redesigned HD control room, located above the Upper Concourse within the Bob Miller Press Box on the West side of the arena.
To finish thing off I will leave you with just a few numbers to better understand how big this thing is, Pansonic saying all of the video components that make up the 4HD scoreboard weight a combined total of 47,000 lbs and required an amazing 5.2 million LED lights to create those High Definition video displays.
