StatVideo LLC, one developer and manufacturer of innovative video conferencing systems, has just announced the launch of the EchoBox. This is clearly a new approach to real-time video conferencing,
as it consists of a compact body and a software viewer, for streaming images over a standard network, thus enabling customers to take advantage of real-time feedback during an imaging procedure.
EchoBox can handle live, real-time transmission of high resolution images, at high frame rates that are suitable for adult congenital and pediatric echocardiograms, but without the cost of expensive video hardware and the expensive ISDN lines. Even more, higher cost video hardware would also weigh a lot more than the approximate 1Kg of the EchoBox. That alone makes it more versatile, and much more useful for experienced medical personnel
who can deploy their activity no matter what their location is.
"We have echo machines and staff spread all over our health care system. Real-time review with the EchoBox now allows us to have the most experienced individuals look in on every scan. This absolutely changes the way we deliver cardiac ultrasound services. This is good for everybody, but mostly for patients,” said Dr. Joe Kisslo, Professor of Medicine, Duke University.
The EchoBox connects an imaging system, over Wi-Fi, Ethernet or even 3G, that allows for remote viewing anytime and especially anywhere, as the EchoBox viewer is downloadable from the web to most laptops and PCs, delivering an image quality that is comparable to S-VHS, namely a 560 x 480 pixel resolution, which is 420 lines,
coming very close to the miniDV standard of 720 x 480 pixel resolution that has 480 lines, so you can relate a little bit to the detail offered, complemented by the picture to the left.
“EchoBox is a quality improvement tool for the diagnosis of complex conditions such as congenital heart disease,” added Al Kyle, President, StatVideo.
