Sometimes you only need a device that works. No glossy cover, titanium bulletproof wood or fantastic chassis design. Just something compact, flexible and providing decent performance. On that note, MSI has just announced the VX600, a new model in its line of notebooks. This little fellow (15.4-inch in size) may not be the cutest notebook in MSI’s line but where it lacks in appearance, it compensates in performance and flexibility.

It has an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, ATI Mobility Radeon HD3410 graphics adapter with 512MB VRAM, up to 4GB of memory and 160GB or 320GB of storage space. It comes with Wi-Fi b/g or b/g/n connection, a DVD burner, 1.3-megapixel webcam and Bluetooth is an optional addition. It has a VGA output, in/out audio, four USB 2.0 ports, 10/100 Ethernet and a 4-in-1 card reader.

Although it is not exactly the most high-tech or cool looking gadget out there, it does its job perfectly and judging by the hardware incorporated in it, a wild guess says it will be a pretty cheap deal. Kind of the exact thing any student might want to have. Or why not, a normal user looking to save some money.

Oh, I forgot to mention it's also (yes, I know you're tired of the trend) eco-friendly with the MSI exclusive new ECO Engine Power Management System, a power saving function that allows it to extend the battery running time while performing different rudimentary tasks.

Or as MSI puts it, “Simply touch the ECO Quick Launch Touch Sensor, VX600 is able to switch among the 5 different modes – Gaming mode, Movie mode, Presentation mode, Office mode, and Turbo Battery mode while performing game applications, playing multimedia applications, performing presentation applications, dealing with office documentation tasks, or looking forward to minimizing the battery power consumption. All you have to do is to select lightly on the 'ECO OFF' to return to the original setting.”

Eco-friendly, small, functional and probably cheap. Good job, MSI!
