As the iPod's domination over the portable music players market doesn't seem to be getting closer to its end anytime soon, the manufacturers of various devices designed especially to work with one of Apple's flagship products keep pushing new and improved models onto the market, in an attempt to cover pretty much every inch of this already overcrowded segment. And the latest announcement regarding a product of this type comes from Teac, which has just revealed the TD-X300i, a 2.1-channel stereo system designed to work equally well as a docking station and a as standalone audio system.
First of all, let's talk about the TD-X300i's audio features. The device from Teac uses NXT flat speakers, which provide a maximum output power of 5Wx2 + 15W (Subwoofer). Thus, the audio system not only provides a fairly OK audio level, but it does so in an attractive package. The only bad thing here is that we're talking just about 2.1-channel audio.
Another very important feature of the TD-X300i is the fact that it can keep users entertained even if they don't have an iPod. And that's because, besides the docking connector (compatible with 4th generation iPods and upwards), the audio system also sports a built-in optical drive compatible with CD-R/RW discs (MP3 discs included), plus a radio tuner with ten station presets.
Furthermore, the device has also been equipped with an auxiliary stereo jack, which can be used for connecting other personal media devices to the system. The TD-X300i also sports one RCA and one S-Video output, allowing it to display the video content stored in the iPod's memory onto a widescreen TV.
Teac's D-X300i iPod docking station is slated to arrive in stores in Japan at some point in early January 2009 and sell for an estimate 30,000 Yens (or 330 US dollars), which is more or less a fair price point, especially for people who already own an iPod.
