As you might have learned from our previous articles on this issue, during our recent visit at CeBIT 2010, we also had the chance to inspect the booth of
Team Group, a new and quite promising player on the memory market, which has also actively tackled the field of SSDs. And for this year's
CeBIT show, the company came up with the Xtreem-S1 SSD that pushes further the speed envelopes for this brand of devices.
Following in the footsteps of the G1 model, released back in 2009, the Xtreem-S1 SSD is equipped with the SandForce processor, the fastest SSD solution in the industry, designed to fully exploit the extremes of the cost and performance MLC chip. And indeed, the solution presented by Team Group is quite fast, since it can attain a reading speed of 270MB/sec and a writing speed of 260MB/s.
The device supports SMART and the US AES-128 encryption specifications to provide real-time SSD health diagnostics and safeguard important data for users, which is another issue most people are seriously concerned with nowadays. Plus, the SSD drives from the Xtreem-S1 family are pretty impressive from the point of view of the provided storage capacity as well, since they're available in 60GB, 120GB and 250GB flavors.
Naturally, these solutions are a lot more rugged than their comparable HDD counterparts, since they've been subjected to extensive testing and have been found to support vibrations in the 10~2000Hz frequency area, shocks up to 15G for 0.5 ms and provide a functioning time of around 1,000,000 hours.
From our short talk with Team Group's reps, we learned that the company is seriously considering the possibility of challenging the likes of Transcend and
A-Data on the SSD market, and wants to come up with a very aggressive pricing plan for promoting their products in the future. No specific details on this issue, though.
