“You can never have one too many e-book readers” is what I always say. The problem with good e-book readers is that they tend to cost a lot of money. The higher the technology being used the higher the price. Of course, there are many cheaper such devices but never seem to satisfy all your needs. Interead is a rather new company that has decided to join the e-book reader battle with its COOL-ER product.
COOL-ER is an e-book reader aimed at offering readers the “iPod moment” they have been waiting for. I don't know about you but I for one would not put iPod and E-book in the same context. As for the “iPod” comparison, it is mainly due to the fact that the reader looks a lot in design like the aforementioned player.
That means it has a pretty basic design, destined for better handling by the less technologically inclined user. It has a 6-inch e-ink screen, it is small enough not to become uncomfortable (I would not go as far as say it can fit into your pockets, since pocket sizes vary) and given the wide array of colors available, it can also be a pretty classy, stylish device.
It has 1GB of internal memory, an SD card slot, no text-to-speech, no Wi-Fi, no keyboard and, in order to load the files, you have to use either USB or an SD card but it has a great MSRP: 250 USD. As for Wi-Fi, keyboards and text-to-speech... a book ever had those? Imagine the COOL-ER as your own digital book and nothing more and you will be more than satisfied.
One charge of the battery equals the turning of 8000 pages so you can be pretty sure that you won't be running out of battery power any time soon. All in all, this is a cooler device (pun intended) than most lower-end gadgets out there, with a nice price and good features that make sure all your basic needs are met.
We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed. Interesting links are bound to be posted with recognition going mainly to those who submit. The address is
