If the screen weren't too bright...

Sometimes it's good to stick to what you already know and try to make it perfect. Getac is one of those companies that have made a name by applying this method. That's how it has become one of the most respected companies in the rugged notebook/tablet business.

The Getac V100 Rugged Tablet PC is another attempt by Getac to improve its already great line up of rugged gadgets. And to an extent, it actually succeeds in doing so. You will not get anything less than what you were promised but you won't be getting anything more either.

If you're the kind of guy or gal that likes a good looking device, this rugged tablet will definitely leave you a sour taste. Like most rugged tablets and notebooks, it is very blocky, designed for persons that really come prepared to work. It is almost twice as thick as the standard 12-inch tablet and built from a magnesium alloy.

This tablet has been designed to go through a lot: water proof caps or doors cover every external port, large screws make sure no liquid sneaks in, it’s vibration and shock resistant and also has a removable shock-protected hard drive. Impressed? There's more! Perhaps aware of angry users, the display screen withstands being hit with a fist or even the rather sharp edge of the table as it falls off.

The display screen is both its strong point and its biggest problem. Designed especially for easy use even with the Sun is directly glaring at your screen, most of people may find its 1.200 nits brightness to be too bright even for an extreme device such as this tablet. Although its main use is as a tablet PC, the V100 is also a convertible notebook thanks to its rotating touchscreen display.

For using it as a notebook, Getac has added a 1.2GHz Intel ULV processor, up to 2GB of RAM and the 120GB removable shock-resistant hard-drive. Not going to break any records but not bad either.
