Like it or not, Amazon has managed to make eBooks popular and now is starting another revolution since the release of the latest Kindle forced a lot of eReader manufacturers to redesign their solutions, Borders just announcing that they will carry the new Kobo that adds wireless functionality and a lower price compared to the previous generation.
These changes are also accompanied by a new processor that drives faster page turns, SD card support being also present as well as a eInk screen that offers 16 grey scale levels.
"We are committed to offering our customers the best of the physical book and eReading worlds," said Mike Edwards, CEO of Borders.
"For decades readers have known Borders as a trusted destination for exploring and discovering traditional paper books - and now as the only major book chain with a comprehensive selection of
eReaders and digital content, we are meeting our customers' reading needs on all fronts.
Nowhere else can you browse a selection of more than 82,000 paper books, walk over to Area-e, our new digital hub, where you test drive a variety of e-Reading devices, and then search for your next favorite book in our
e-Bookstore.”
Next to this extensive line up of eBooks, the device also comes pre-loaded with 100 free classic titles so you can immediately begin using your new Kobo.
As I said earlier, pricing has also come down, the new and improved Kobo being now available for $139.99, the same price as that of the 6 inch Wi-Fi enabled Amazon Kindle, a tough choice indeed.
