“War, war never changes.” I am sure you remember one of the most iconic catch phrases in the history of video games, belonging to the Fallout series. Well, ladies and gentlemen, while war may never change, I know something that does, did and probably will do again in the near future if this new idea doesn't catch up. Remember a little something called
the OpenOfficeMouse that I talked about some time ago? Well, guess who’s back, with a new look, a meaner attitude and also a new name: the WarMouse Meta.
Back when I wrote about the mouse, I mentioned a little something that happened to me a while back regarding a woman and her snail-like... speedy one-finger typing ability. Imagine if that same woman was an avid Real Time Strategy player. Yeah, I know, painful isn't it? Well, imagine that woman using the WarMouse Meta. A little bit better, I know! The truth of the matter is there's no other use that I find for this mouse. I admit to having tried but besides being perfect for an avid RTS player... most users will find it useless.
Why, when it has
so many buttons, you ask? Well, exactly because it has too many buttons! Seriously, take a look at it. XBOX 360 style analog stick plus an extra button on one side, eight buttons on the right, eight on the left and also the clickable scroll wheel in the middle. These are just too many buttons. Forget the 5600 CPI laser, give some of the buttons up! Should you decide to get it, it costs 74.99 USD.
“We were frankly shocked by the overwhelming response to our original announcement of the mouse," said Theodore Beale, Lead Designer at WarMouse. “We sent out three emails and ended up getting three million hits on our website that weekend; no one seemed to believe that an 18-button mouse with a joystick could be anything but a joke. But it's real, it's brutal, and it's going to fundamentally change what people expect of their input devices. There are some who are of the opinion that the Meta is insane, but we believe there are many gamers and power users who want to be able to do more than stroke their mouse with two fingers.”
We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there.
