Soldiers of fortune, hunters, gun enthusiasts and Half-Life fans out there, rejoice: the TAC-15 Tactical Crossbow is here. A crossbow like no other, this interesting weapon replaces the upper receiver of an AR-15, a semi-automatic rifle so you get to switch to the semi-automatic AR-15 in case a silent takedown is no longer an option.
For those of you that think silencers are enough, let me give you a brief lesson in silencers. These do reduce the sound of a gunshot, making it less loud and different in tonality and timbre than your regular gunshot. It's still pretty loud, though, and the only way to make an almost completely silent takedown with a silencer is if you use subsonic rounds such as the 9x19mm (same as the ones used with a silenced MP5).
However, subsonic rounds do not pack such a great punch and have a medium-to-low range when used with a silencer.
But back to our crossbow, shall we? Looking more “Half-Life” than “Soldier Of Fortune,” the TAC-15 Tactical seems to come with a picatinny rail system that allows the mounting of several devices such as... say... a grenade launcher, a reflex sight (for the semi-automatic version, or perhaps a little close combat crossbow action) and so on.
It seems it will be made available next month for about 1.300 USD. And for those of you who like to take things up close and personal, you can even mount a chainsaw in the event of a resonance cascade scenario that brings otherworldly beings to our world. Who needs a bayonet when you can go “Gears Of War” on your enemies?
So, whether you're into silent takedowns, semi-automatic weapon assaults (the AR-15 in its base build does have a tendency to overheat and jam) or Gears of War-like carnage, this weapon is the thing for you.
I wonder how some (such as myself) can expect people to live together in peace when such devices for killing continue to be manufactured.
