Don't you just want a GPS device that loads up any kind of map you wish without the usual compatibility issues that occur in such cases? It is hard enough to find good maps for a far away country (say... Eastern European) without realizing that you need another device to actually see the GPS data you need.
This is where the TwoNav Aventura comes in. This GPS receiver can read just about any type of map you throw at it and, more importantly, it is a dual-use device, meaning that you'll be able to use it both in car and also in the outdoors. The Aventura has a 3.5-inch touch screen that can be rotated in portrait or landscape mode (unfortunately, it seems to be a manual setting and not due to an accelerometer) and also features Tele Atlas and topography maps for the countries where it is sold.
The gadget is able to use a digital elevation model with customizable 3D settings, it accepts raster imagery, as well as vector maps and although “accepting all kinds of maps without problem of compatibility” might be a bit of an exaggeration, it will most assuredly be able to scan and calibrate any type of map in order to be inserted in it. This means the TwoNav Aventura will be a geotagging adventurer's dream come true.
It has a SiRFstar III chipset, a battery life of 10 to 20 hours, supports up to 32GP of expanded SDHC card storage, has an electronic compass, a barometric altimeter, an internal li-ion battery replaceable with a 3 AA battery, adapter, and is also rainproof. The Aventura will be released in Europe in June, costing 599 Euros for a single country version, 649 Euros for the Western European version, and around 900 USD (if we were to judge by the price in Europe) for when (if) it is released in the US.
We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there.
