Don't know if you have seen this one until now, but it is a “world's first” type of gadget and it had to be presented here. The first mechanical mobile phone has been built by Celsius X VI II and it is said to be showcased two days from now at the Basel World
watch show in Switzerland. The device is called Papillon and uses some sort of micro-mechanics borrowed from Swiss watches. It should be pretty amazing to see this one in action, as I cannot imagine a mobile phone working on simple mechanics.
There were some rumors about this 300,000 USD mobile phone a while ago but nobody seemed to believe them. Since the French from Celsius X V II are going to present it to the public in the near future, the nay-sayers must be really disappointed right now.
The integration of a tourbillon mechanism into a cellphone is really impressive, but not as impressive as the fact that the whole
device uses no more and no less than 547 mechanical pieces in order to function. The Remontage Papillon (which mimics the movements of a butterfly) mechanism integrated into a mobile phone is activated when the “wings” are unfolded. Papillon means butterfly in French, in case you haven't figured it out by now.
Though the price of this new invention is itself astonishing, which makes it somewhat less accessible to the masses, at least we now know that this is a possible design and we can only hope to see more of them in the future. Perhaps ones that aren't built by high-end manufacturers that only make it on
bornrich.
Although we have seen the
digital and analog worlds collide, through other mysterious gadgets, every time an invention like this makes an appearance, we are impressed with the efforts that some put into making truly unique and never-before-seen designs.
We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed.
