The evolution of modern technology is helping people with various disabilities communicate a lot easier than they did before, thus helping them better integrate in their communities, and that will certainly also be case the with the new Tobii S32 device from Tobii ATI, which allows users a way to communicate by activating pre-recorded messages at the touch of a finger.
The
Tobii S32 is an augmentative and
alternative communication (AAC) device that plays back pre-recorded messages, sounds or IR-signals simply by touching a sheet of printed symbols, pictures, or scenes.
The messages and sounds are recorded either directly onto the Tobii S32 or via Tobii SymbolMate software, which allows users to create page sets and print them out on any printer.
The Tobii S32 comes in two different
models, Touch and Scan, the first being targeted specifically towards individuals who have the ability to touch pictures and symbols, while the second is made for individuals who have difficulty using their hands to touch the pictures and symbols by using switches to make their choice in the grids or scenes.
“We set out to design something that takes recorded speech devices to the next level. We have seen that there is room for a device that offers great sound, long recording and battery times and is rugged enough for everyday usage. The Tobii S32 is a communication device that is easy to use,” says Tara Rudnicki, President of Tobii ATI North America.
The Tobii S32 Touch is apparently available now, while the Tobii S32 Scan will be available later in the fall of 2010, but, unfortunately, no pricing details regarding either of these very useful solutions has been provided.
