The most awesome display of awesomeness

Today is a joyous day: the answer to all of the world's problems is nearing completion. The answer is none other than a 59 foot tall Gundam that will be watching over Odaiba (part of Tokyo) for about two months after which it will be deactivated. Well, taken apart more likely, since it is just a statue of sorts. Keep on reading for more Gundam awesomeness.

Ok, I guess I am not the only one that grew up watching cartoons such as Voltron, Saber Rider and Gundam. And I am pretty sure I'm not the only one that became an anime and mecha fan because of those great cartoons. They had great story and inspired you with a sense of justice and righteousness that cartoons nowadays really lack (have you seen the stuff airing on Cartoon Network nowadays?).

Most of those cartoons generated a lot of spinoffs and copycat-type cartoons, video games, comics, novels, toys, but never something as remarkable as the Life-Sized Gundam that is currently being completed in Tokyo. A part of the first Gundam series, this beautiful mecha is meant to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Mobile Suit Gundam series. It is 18 meters in size (that's 59 foot converted into meters), weighs 35 tons and will stand watch, like I said before, in Odaiba, Tokyo.

Let me fill you in a bit on the background story of the Gundam Saga. The story revolves around the war between multiple factions and the events generated by that war. They use mobile suits in order to fight and the pilots of those suits are the main characters. There are a lot of motifs to the series, ranging from political or philosophical debates to coming of age dramas, giving it a more Shakespearian allure.

The depth of the series is what made it so popular among teenagers everywhere and the Gundam statue is a worthy monument to an age where cartoons were the first step towards a healthy mind and education.
