Green computing is definitely a hot trend right now, every manufacturer out there assaulting us with power consumption figures, so Tomauri developed a power strip that saves energy by turning off all your plugged in devices when you leave the room, dubbed the HiSAVER energy-saving surge protector.
In order for this to work, the power strip comes bundled together with a motion sensor to detect if someone is in the room, after ten minutes of inactivity, the device cutting power to all the outlets so no standby energy is used.
This
power strip also comes with a master outlet, that won't be switched off when nobody is in the room, as well as a selectable plug that allows you to choose if you want the devices plugged in to turn off or not when the room is empty for more then 10 minutes.
These two outlets can be used for connecting a computer or other devices that always need to stay on like a wireless router or a fax machine, for example.
"It's easy to concentrate on the conveniences our electronic gadgets provide us while their growing thirst for power goes unnoticed," says Rob Sprumont, Tomauri's Director of Corporate Development.
"Most don't realize how wasteful it can be to leave peripherals and chargers
plugged in, even in standby mode, when not in use."
Good as it may sound, the HiSAVER has one extremely large inconvenient in my book and that's the large $110 price tag that comes along with it, entire years passing until you manage to get back on electricity what you spent when buying this thing.
