Nowadays, if you want to be in the news you have to announce or launch a tablet since these devices have become the hottest things in tech, but Toshiba is planning more than that as the company is set to launch and ship its tablet by the end of 2010.
Although the tablet will be available only in some small quantities, sources cited by
DigiTimes claiming 40.000 to 50.000 units, Toshiba may well be among the first major manufacturers to release their
tablet devices before year-end.
Even though someone else will beat them to the punch, Toshiba would still hold an advantage, as the Tegra 2 chip will most likely prove itself a lot more powerful then the ARM chips used by
other manufacturers since at its hart sits a dual-core Coretex A9 processor.
And if that is not fast enough, NVIDIA’s solution also comes endowed with a graphics core that doubles the first generations Tegra performance and adds 1080p video decoding and even 1080p encoding to the feature list.
Toshiba's 10 inch Android tablet is expected to launch is September or October and will most likely first become available in Japan.
Other details are not known at this time, but is the craftsmanship is as high as that demoed in the Libretto W100, then Toshiba may have a real
iPad “killer” on their hands.
