It may sound strange to
you that Toshiba is releasing a laptop specially built for kids, but
their reasoning actually makes a lot of sense since the company
knows the Holiday season is coming up and, as they actually state,
one is four parents want to buy a laptop for their school aged
children, so why not take advantage of this situation, and some
market share along with it, and intro the Satellite L635 Kids'.
Toshiba says this laptop
was designed with kids in mind so it features an easy to clean
wipeable keyboard and a no-gloss Dura-cross textured finish that resists fingerprints as well as special software that helps
parents protect their kids from dangers lurking online.
This software suite is
actually made up of KidZui, an Internet browser designed for children,
and Net Nanny as well as two Disney movies and the LEGO Batman game,
to ad a bit of entertainment to the mix.
And the best thing about
the Satellite L635 Kids' is this thing is actually a full-fledged
notebook coming in with
13.3-inch HD display, Intel Celeron P4600
processor, 2GB of RAM, a DVD drive, and 250GB of storage.
"The laptop has
traditionally been a device conceived and built for adults, and
devices currently being marketed to kids are either netbooks or
toy-based computers," said Jeff Barney, vice president and
general manager, Toshiba America Information Systems, Digital
Products Division.
At $499 this doesn't sound
as a bad deal at all, but, unfortunately,
Toshiba has announced the
Satellite L635 Kids' will be available exclusively trough Best Buy
stores.
